Taking my baby to the first dedicated postpartum retreat in America @boramcare, or as I like to call it a “baby hotel” in New York City. They help take care of your newborn so the parents can rest and recover and properly bond with their new baby. This arrangement might seem unusual but it’s actually quite common in other countries, particularly in East Asia. My wife is from China and the practice of 月子中心 (postpartum retreat) is almost universal there. Same in Korea and Japan. And in Europe it’s common to have nurses visit the home to check up on the parents. Really makes the American practice of sending new parents home from the hospital with no further help at all seem barbaric, and it’s certainly reflected in our country’s poor maternity mortality rates. Thanks to Boram for sponsoring this trip, a genuinely amazing experience for me and my wife!
