American-themed candy stores have been popping up in London over the past few years. And their popularity has led to a battle with the local council who are trying to close them down. The local council, Westminster City Council, say these stores owe millions of pounds in business rates and it has seized £1 million worth of illegal and counterfeit goods from them over the last 15 months. But despite its efforts to reduce their numbers, new ones keep opening. Council leader Adam Hug, said: “Candy and souvenir shops are shifting location and reappearing on Oxford Street. Westminster City Council has energetically pursued unscrupulous traders who sell unsafe or fake goods and fail to pay business rates, but we have always maintained this is a whack-a-mole activity.” #london #londontiktok #londonlife #uk #oxfordstreet #american #americancandy #americancandyuk #americancandyshop #westminstercouncil #americanshop #americantheme #americansweets #americansweetsuk #counterfeit | Why Are There So Many Of These American Candy Stores In London?
