Underwater microphones designed to spot enemy submarines first heard what the U.S. Navy suspected was the Titan submersible implosion hours after the submersible began its voyage, officials involved in the search said. Officials said the discovery played a role in narrowing the scope of the search for the vessel before its debris was discovered. 📷: OceanGate, CTV, AP, U.S. Coast Guard, Getty #titan #submersible #titanic #navy #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | [according to U.S.

The five men on the submersible that disappeared on an excursion to the Titanic shipwreck are believed dead, said the U.S. Coast Guard and OceanGate Expeditions, the company that operated the vessel. Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger said searchers found debris from the craft that was “consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.” 📹: WBZ #titanic #submersible #ocengate #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | Coast Guard Rear Adm. Rescuers are racing to find a missing submersible headed for the Titanic shipwreck. The vessel, owned and operated by OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact with the ship monitoring it from the surface one hour and 45 minutes after it began its dive in the North Atlantic on Sunday morning. Five people are stuck at the bottom of the ocean, and some parts of the internet want them to stay there. #Titanic You’ve probably heard about this missing sub everyone’s talking about. It’s operated by OceanGate Expeditions, a company that does deep-sea adventures for tourists and ever since 2021 has been making annual trips to the wreck of the Titanic. With its submersible, called “Titan,” diving far off the coast of southeastern Canada yesterday morning. Right, it’s got about as much space inside as a minivan, with five-inch-thick carbon-fiber capped on each end by a dome of titanium to keep its five crewmembers safe. And what distinguishes a submersible from a submarine is that the former relies on a surface vessel or platform. But about an hour and 45 minutes after diving, Titan’s surface vessel lost contact with it, so the U.S. and Canadian coast guards began a joint search operation. With boats, radar-equipped planes and sonar buoys getting deployed to the area, but finding nothing as of this recording. Now according to OceanGate, the sub is designed to hold 96 hours of emergency oxygen. And as of this morning, the operation’s chief said they estimate between 70 and the full 96 hours were left. But that means rescuers could have until around Thursday before time runs out, and this is no easy task. #Submarine #Ocean #Shipwreck
Officials are still searching for a civilian submersible with five people aboard after it went missing in the North Atlantic while voyaging to the wreckage of the Titanic. The founder of OceanGate, the company that organizes Titanic expeditions, showed a CBS team the inside of the type of submersible used for the tours. CNN's Gabe Cohen, who also went inside a similar OceanGate vessel in 2018 when reporting for KOMO, explains what surprised him most about how the vehicle operates.#cnn #news #titanic #submarine
The UN has begun salvage operations on a decaying supertanker carrying 1.1 million barrels of oil off Yemen’s Red Sea coast. The rusting vessel is carrying four times the amount of oil than the Exxon Valdez oil spill off the coast of Alaska in 1989, which was one of the world’s worst ecological disasters. #oil #oilspill #ecology #yemen #redsea | The UN Is Rushing to Remove 'Time Bomb'

The largest and most powerful rocket ever built has blasted off from Texas but blew up within minutes in a test flight that its makers, SpaceX, hope will be the first step on a human journey to Mars. It appeared that the two sections of the rocket system – the booster and cruise vessel – were unable to separate properly after takeoff, possibly causing the spacecraft to fail. SpaceX had previously cautioned that the chances of success were low and that the aim of the test flight was to gather data, regardless of whether the full mission was achieved.
