Stocks are on the rise. It’s unclear whether this rally will last, especially as a hot job market and sticky inflation complicates the Federal Reserve’s plans for cooling a red-hot economy. 📷: Getty Images (3), Bloomberg #stocks #stockmarket #money #investing #investor #wsj #thewallstreetjournal #wallstreetjournal | railroads | 3. The pandemic’s economic whiplash, followed by high inflation, has created a stressful economic situation for many young adults. Average credit-card debt rose 29% to $5,800 in March from a year earlier for millennials and increased 40% to $2,800 for Gen Z, according to Credit Karma. #personalfinance #inflation #saving #money #wealth #genz #millenial #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | Why is money so

Many young adults overwhelmed by financial stress cope by ignoring the problem. Psychologists say it is a typical habit among younger people in any era, but the pandemic’s economic whiplash followed by high inflation is making such avoidance more common, say economists and financial advisers. #personalfinance #budget #saving #money #wealth #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | 3 ways to improve

While McCarthy’s federal revenue numbers are technically true, implementing more taxes on billionaires—even by a little—could boost America’s revenue by a huge amount in the next decade. #usa #republican #politics | A reporter asking about taxing the rich was met with laughter by Republican lawmakers after being shut down by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
 | Republicans Were Asked If They'd Tax the Rich. They Literally Laughed
 | McCarthy said that taxing the rich wasn't needed, because the U.S. had a federal revenue of 20 percent of GDP, compared to 17 percent in previous years.
 | He then blamed inflation on Democrats spending $6 trillion after winning the 2020 election.
 | Raising taxes on the wealthy, even a small amount, can bring in huge revenue.
 | For example, a 3 percent wealth tax on billionaires, as proposed by Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in 2021, would produce around $3 trillion in revenue in the next 10 years. | House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

A Brookings Institution estimate found that a married, middle-income couple with two children would spend $310,605—or an average of $18,271 a year—to raise their younger child born in 2015 through age 17. The multiyear total is up $26,011, or more than 9%, from a calculation based on the inflation rate over two years ago, before rapid price increases hit the economy, Brookings said. #parenting #childcare #money #raisingkids #finance #personalfinance #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | *according to a Brookings Institution estimate
It is better—financially—to be married than single if you’re 25 to 34, according to the St. Louis Fed. The money gap between young married couples and singles has widened, thanks to inflation and rising home prices. After a spell of rapid inflation and years of pandemic living, single people are getting left further behind, say economists at the Fed and elsewhere. #marriage #money #single #marriedcouples #youngcouple #singlelife #rich #wealth #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | (According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis)
Throwing a Super Bowl party? Be prepared to spend more than you did last year. Inflation has caused common football-watching foods—like chips, wings and beer—to cost more than they did a year ago. Here’s a breakdown of the numbers, according to the Consumer Price Index data for December 2022, the most recent month for which data are available. #SuperBowl #superbowlsnacks #football #wings #chips #food #inflation #wsj #wallstreetjournal #thewallstreetjournal | (Dec. 2021-Dec. 2022

Grocery shoppers, frustrated by the record prices of a dozen eggs, are increasingly choosing to go right to the source by bringing chickens home. Those who have raised chickens for years, however, say these newbies don’t always understand the tricky logistics of maintaining a coop—and won’t necessarily break even on the price of eggs. #eggs #chicks #chicken #raisingchickens #inflation #eggprices #wsj #thewallstreetjournal #wallstreetjournal
